The Bayside Film Festival is a terrific event, very local to Melbourne beachies, and so if you prefer a camera to a surfboard (or combine them) follow this lead.  It is one of those little festivals that gets attention and can open doors.

OPEN YOUTH CATEGORY - ENTRIES CLOSING SOON! The fifth annual Bayside Film Festival is set to showcase the best films by up-and-coming filmmakers. Celebrating young voices through the Youth Documentary and Digital Stories Projects, the BFF program empowers young people to create films that provide an insight into their worlds. Young filmmakers are also invited to participate in the Open Youth Category, a screening program of short films from filmmakers across Australia. Students aged 13 - 25 are invited to submit short films of any genre up to 6 minutes in length to screen at the Bayside Film Festival. Entries will be pre-selected to showcase alongside the popular Youth Documentary and Digital Stories Projects. BFF invites short works to screen as part of a non-competitive program. Films will be selected according to the high quality of examples of narrative, animation and documentary. The 2008 festival explores the ethical imagination, portraits in solitude, and the visceral and personal.
