Bayside Film Festival - coming very soon

E-mail Print PDF

Bayside film Festival kicks off with a gala first night on 15th July and this youth oriented festival is one with some real community worth, showcasing, as it does, the works of young filmmakers.

For all info including where to get tickets,

Go to http://www.bayside.vic.gov.au/arts_bayside_film_festival.htm

All events are centred around the Palace Brighton Bay Cinema (Bay Street).

If you're on the north side, it is worth the drive to see kids actually doing something positive with an eye on the future.

If you're on the south side, you have no excuse not to be there to lend support.  Who know?  There may be an Adam Elliot of 2019 there!  Then you will be able to say 'I was there when he/she made their first film...'

Bud leaves us all with a smile

Charles (Bud) Tingwell left the world this morning and, as to be expected, tributes are coming in via the truckload and will for many a day.  The State funeral will be held for him on Wednesday apparently but I will miss it, being on a plane to L.A..  However, I will be there in spirit.  All who had any dealings with Bud, even the slightest meeting, loved him as his inner honesty was as great as his outer smiles.  That's a rare quality as was his ability to reach old, young, rich, poor, talented and downright dopey with equal perspicacity, wit and charm.

I have spent many happy hours with him over the years  and was honoured to have served as President of the Producers' and Directors' Guild of Victoria with him as Vice-President. His long experience cast great insight across every issue.  He never shirked from a task and was as generous with his time as if he believed that he would live till the age of 500!  Youth benefited greatly from his advice.

'Love' seems almost inadequate a word to use but it  was true - we all loved Bud and then there was respect, awe at his energy, appreciation at his ability to lighten a moment and admired him as a versatile, accomplished and sensitive actor and a total spunk!

Condolences to the Tingwell family as this void is one that will be impossible to fill, but I have seen in you the great qualities of your wonderful parents and these are things that never die.

Safe journey wherever you are now Bud, and I will always carry your spirit in my heart.

Bud TIngwell not so well

I visited my dear friend and highly respected colleague, Bug Tingwell yesterday in hospital.  His wit is still shining and he was happy to be with his visitors, reminiscing and joking as always.  He is so greatly loved that there would be many sending him messages at the moment with good and happy thoughts.  Not knowing that he isn't actually up to reading at present, I bought him a book, and even in the bookshop, when I said who it was for, the man serving spoke glowingly of Bud and how much he is adored by teh Aussie people.  If there were a medal for that, his chest would be covered in gold!

Let's hope that the sun shines through and that he is well again!  But he is lucky to be surrounded by his wonderful family just now as always.

Hang in there Bud!
