Gloomy week for the entertainment industry.

Jacko

Ed McMahon photoQuite a parade of losses for the entertainment industry: Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett and now Michael Jackson, the latter being a totally unexpected death.

Each has contributed immeasurably to the industry, Ed McMahon with his voice and his comedy sidekick role, Farrah with her inspirational role in Charlie's Angels and then devastating us with 'Extremities' and 'The Burning Bed' (I mean, the girl could REALLY act!).I spent quite a lot of time watching her in 'Charlie's Angels' as it happened to be on during my shift on transmission.  She really knew how to light up a screen and considering how inexperienced she was, that was an amazing feat.

It was also terribly sad to see that Michael Jackson, who gave his entire childhood for our pleasure, died as well.  Of course, everyone must go sometime, but it is so odd that Farrah died of something that made her lose that amazing signature coif and that Jacko died of something other than being clubbed to death by an irate parent.  Let's try and remember him as the bouncy little kid in the Jackson 5. Another casualty of the child prodigy exploitation syndrome.  It's a pity people were not more cautious with their OWN kids and the greed of everyone surrounding this genius of a child is one of the scandals of our time. 'Nobody dast blame this man' as Arthur Miller said. Blame the parents of the children who were Jacko's victims as they should have had more sense, but where there's a buck to be made, anyone's fair game in some people's minds.
